Filtronic wins the Innovative Supplier Collaboration Award by Leonardo

RF- and mm-wave specialist, Filtronic, has been awarded the Innovative Supplier Collaboration Award from Leonardo as part of the Leonardo Innovation Awards 2023. Accolades are given to key suppliers of the aerospace and defence giant, who have stood out for their commitment to excellence, spirit of collaboration and excellent results achieved.  

Filtronic was given this award for innovation in manufacturing, specifically relating to Leonardo’s transmit and receive modules (TRMs). Filtronic has invested in technology that could enable a transition from hybrid assemblies to plastic-packaged modules, resulting in a significant improvement in performance vs. cost. For a typical AESA radar that requires a large number of these components, this could result in a step change in capability.

“This award is a great acknowledgement of our consistent history of successful delivery to Leonardo, and follows the supply chain excellence award we won in 2020” commented Jerry Sanham, Business Development Director at Filtronic. “We are investing in the technology to assist Leonardo in taking their TRMs to the next level, resulting in improvements in Size, Weight, and Power (SWAP-C), as well as cost.”

Leonardo is an Italian-headquartered multinational organisation specialising in aerospace, defence and security. The company is one of the ten largest defence contractors in the world.

In receipt of Filtronic receiving this award, a Leonardo spokesperson said, “Filtronic’s agility in responding to this technology transition enables Leonardo to capitalise on their innovative solutions.”
