The Role

The Software Development Engineer will primarily support our in-house Manufacturing Execution System and SQL server databases, in the development and deployment of an updated MES system and related operator interfaces. The successful candidate will also work closely with Production and Engineering teams to ensure reliable system operation and provide ongoing support for improvements through development of new dashboard and reporting tools and stand-alone applications in response to requests from other teams.

  • Assume full ownership to drive yield improvements and process efficiencies
  • Extensive testing of the new system
  • Review internal requirements and develop automated reporting tools
  • Report project progress and risks to project teams and Software Team Leader
  • Review, identify, and instigate areas for improvement within current applications
  • Develop other applications as needs arise, and be responsible for the complete solution lifecycle including; Requirements review, Design, Implementation, Testing, Training & Support, compiling specifications, instructions, and Change Notes
  • Support the regression testing involved in the migration of the existing MES to a new system
  • Support quality, manufacturing engineering, and production teams with system improvements and new applications to aid in continual improvement activities
  • Plan, organise, and manage own time in order to meet project requirements
  • Manage and implement changes
  • Participate in code peer reviews with other members of software team
  • Compile supporting documentation for the developed solutions and train users as necessary
  • Assist in the Database Lifecycle Management of SQL Server databases
  • Analyse, diagnose and resolve technical issues and ensure they are dealt with in a timely manner
  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues and document changes
  • Integrate automated reporting solutions with the Company’s test data collection tools, such as Wats

Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

  • Knowledge of MS SQL server
  • Experience using C++ or C#
  • Able to work effectively on large multi-developer projects
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 & 2016 administration
  • Experience in database design, deployment, and maintenance
  • Experience working with database creation techniques and relational database management systems (RDBMS) features
  • Experience in creating bespoke reports
  • Experience in a high volume-manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with production flow requirements
  • Experience with the installation, configuration and maintenance of database environments
  • Experience working as a DBA (Database Administrator)
  • Experience troubleshooting complex SQL statements
  • Degree in a scientific subject e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics, or equivalent experience
  • MTA, MCSA, or similar SQL certification would be a bonus
