Filtronic is looking for an Engineering Technician to join our team to work on a range of exciting projects. Summary of Responsibilities: Provide input to assembly, alignment and test documentation. This will include sketches of assembly details, reviewing and amending manufacturing documents and producing tuning screw maps. Produce documents to assist with the communication of design changes in a format that can be understood and approved by the Filter Design Engineer and the Mechanical Designer. Work with the Test Development Engineer to define ATE alignment sequences and enhancements and corrections to existing ATE alignment and test sequences. Develop test cavities for filters and measure cavity Q-factor. Collect and format test data and produce test reports of a standard suitable for customer delivery. Calculate frequency inset limits for filter alignment, based on measured filter performance over temperature. Update and seek approval for associated documents (AAR and ATR). Configure, calibrate and maintain IMD test benches according to written specifications. Carry out various testing and troubleshooting of filters to achieve compliant IMD performance.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Alignment of commercial cavity filters with network analyzers according to required specifications.
  • Carry out experiments and modifications to solve compliance problems with prototype filters. Modifications will typically be to coupling apertures, resonator dimensions and positions and input couplings.
  • Provide input to assembly, alignment and test documentation. This will include sketches of assembly details, reviewing and amending manufacturing documents and producing tuning screw maps.
  • Produce documents to assist with the communication of design changes in a format that can be understood and approved by the Filter Design Engineer and the Mechanical Designer.
  • Work with the Test Development Engineer to define ATE alignment sequences and enhancements and corrections to existing ATE alignment and test sequences.
  • Develop test cavities for filters and measure cavity Q-factor.
  • Collect and format test data and produce test reports of a standard suitable for customer delivery.

  • Carry out various testing and troubleshooting of filters to achieve compliant IMD performance.
  • Configure and calibrate other RF test benches and carry out testing, as required. This includes network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power amplifiers and oscilloscopes.
  • Carry out in-house qualification testing and supervise third party qualification testing according to Verification Plan and Verification Specification documents. This includes temperature testing, IMD, peak and average power, ingress protection, lightning protection, EMC, product safety and others.
  • Assist with assembly of filters and other prototype products as needed.
  • Provide on-the-job training to other production operatives at the production site. This includes filter alignment, test site configuration and use of the ATE test solution.
  • Collect and analyze data from pilot production and feedback problems and recommended solutions to the Filter Design Engineer and Mechanical Designer.
  • In collaboration with production and engineering personnel, carry out experiments to identify potential design or process changes that can solve compliance problems, reduce alignment and test time, or improve process yield.
  • Oversee the introduction of engineering changes during pilot production.
  • Any other reasonable duties as assigned.

Education, Skills and Experience

  • Five or more years of RF experience.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical data.
  • Ability to write concise technical documents, including test reports.
  • Ability to effectively present information to colleagues.
